Summary

Great Western is a town in the Wimmera region of Victoria. It is well known for its wineries.

Description

Great Western is a small town in the Wimmera region of Victoria.

Located in the middle of the Western Highway, half way between Melbourne and Adelaide . The town was first settled by sheep graziers in the 1840s, prior to the discovery of gold (which saw white settlement increase) and later the planting of the now famous grape vines.

Some fantastic events happen in the small town to this day, such as the famous Great Western Rodeo at Easter, and the Australia Day weekend Great Western Races (for the horse enthusiasts).

Some of the major wineries include Best's Winery, Grampians Estate and Seppelt Winery.

Great Western is a short drive from the Grampians National Park. Spend the day walking, chatting and testing some wines.
